About

Original artworks from NASA

Located approximately 80 light-years away in the constellation Capricornus, PSO J318.5-22 has a mass only six times that of Jupiter. It belongs to a collection of young stars called the Beta Pictoris moving group that formed about 12 million years ago. The object was discovered in 2013 in images taken by the Pan-STARRS PS1 wide-field telescope.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an autonomous organization of the United States Federal Government liable for the regular citizen space program and aeronautics and space research. NASA was set up in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). Since its foundation, most US space investigation endeavours have been driven by NASA, including the Apollo Moon landing missions, the Skylab space station, and the Space Shuttle.
